Privacy

This page was last changed on October 2, 2026.

This page lists everything the site keeps about you, who can see it, which companies hold it for us and how long it stays. Where we keep something for longer than we should, we say so, and you can ask us to delete it.

What we collect

When you apply, you give us your name, your email, your age, your group and, if you name one, the member who referred you. You also send three photographs, and we strip the location and camera details out of each one before we save it.

When you log in, we send a six-digit code to your email, and once you are in, your browser keeps a cookie that holds your session. When you vote, we record that you voted on a man, and when.

If you offer your house for a night, we take your name, phone number, email and neighborhood, along with whatever you write in the message box.

Each time anyone applies, offers a house or asks for a code, we note the internet address the request came from and a scrambled form of the email, so that nobody can flood the forms.

Why we collect it

The members need your photographs, your age and your group to vote on you. We use your email to tell you the result and to send your sign-in codes, your tickets and the address of each night you buy a ticket for, and your name goes on the door list for those nights. We do not use any of it for advertising, and we do not sell it.

Who sees it

  • The members who vote on you. The members of the two groups that are not yours see your photographs, your age and your group while your vote is open. They never see your name or your email, and nobody from your own group sees your photographs.
  • The organizer. If the members vote you in, the organizer looks at your photographs, name, age, group and referrer before you are admitted. He can also open the database, which holds everything on this page.
  • You. Once you are a member, you can see your own record and photographs on the members' page.
  • The name on every photograph. Every photograph a member opens has his name printed across it, or his email if his name cannot be printed, so a leaked photograph can be traced to the screen it came from.

We share none of it with anyone except the companies listed below, which hold it for us.

How long we keep it

  • Your application. If you get in, we delete your application along with your membership record when your membership runs out. If you do not get in, we keep your name, email, age, group and referrer, and at the moment we have no date on which we delete them. We are changing that, and until we do, you can ask us to delete them at any time.
  • Your photographs, if you are not admitted. We delete them on the day the decision is made.
  • Your photographs, if you are admitted. We keep them while you are a member. Membership lasts 365 days from the day you are voted in, or 1,095 days for a founding member's first term. When you are voted in again, your new photographs replace the old ones and we delete the old set. If you are not, we delete them on the day your membership runs out. If your new photographs are still before the members or the organizer that day, the old ones stay until that is settled, and if you are not voted in, we delete them within a day.
  • Your photographs, while your application waits. If one of your photographs did not upload properly, or the members voted you in and you are waiting for the organizer, your photographs stay until he settles your application, and at the moment nothing limits how long that takes.
  • Your membership record. We keep your name, email, group, the date you were voted in and the date you last voted for as long as you are a member. On the day your membership runs out, we delete it, along with your sign-in codes, your logged-in sessions and the record of your votes. If your new photographs are still before the members or the organizer that day, it stays until that is settled, and if you are not voted in, we delete it within a day. We keep your email address and the date you left, for our mailing list, and every email we send to that list lets you take yourself off it. If the organizer has taken you off the roll, we do not keep your email address either.
  • Your votes. The record that you voted on a man never says which way you voted, but when every vote on him went the same way, the total would show it. At the moment we keep that record after his vote closes, and we are changing it so the record is deleted at the close.
  • Your tickets. We delete each ticket 150 days after its night and keep only the date of your first night.
  • Signing in. A sign-in code stops working after 10 minutes, and the cookie that keeps you logged in lasts 30 days or until you log out.
  • Internet addresses. We delete the notes of internet addresses after 24 hours, but the clean-up runs only when someone uses the forms, so in a quiet week they can stay for several days.
  • A house offer. An offer is not stored on the site. It reaches the organizer as an email, and he keeps it until he deletes it.

The companies that hold it for us

  • Neon runs our database, which holds every record on this page.
  • Vercel runs the site and keeps the photographs in a private store that only the site can open. Like every web host, it also logs the internet address and the page of each visit.
  • Resend sends our emails, so it handles your email address and everything we write to you.
  • Cloudflare runs the check on our forms that tells a person from a program. It loads each time you open the home page or the log-in page, and it sees your internet address and some details of your browser. Cloudflare's own privacy policy covers what it does with them.

Each of these companies keeps what it holds for as long as its own service is set to, and a record we delete can stay in their backups for a short time afterward.

Cookies and tracking

The only cookie is the one that keeps you logged in. Your answer to the age question on the first page is remembered in that browser tab and forgotten when you close it. The site has no analytics and no advertising tools, and its fonts come from our own server, so apart from the four companies above, nobody else learns that you visited. We do not follow you across other websites, so a Do Not Track setting in your browser changes nothing here.

Deleting your information

Write to events@thehandrian.com from the email you applied with, and we will delete your application, your photographs and your membership record within 30 days and write back when it is done. You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, the same way. A deleted membership cannot be restored, so a man who wants to come back applies again.

If you are under 18

The site is for men 18 and over. If we learn that someone under 18 has applied, we delete his application and photographs.
